It’s easy to set up your Business Facebook Page, however many people forget a few simple things when they first get started. Here’s my top 5 essential steps to take before publishing your Facebook Fan Page:
1. Don’t Follow the Set Up Options to the Letter… At Least Not Right Away!
Facebook will prompt you with 3 easy steps to follow. By all means follow these steps but you don’t have to complete all of them right away. For example it makes more sense to hold off on Step 2 where Facebook asks you to share your page with your friends and import contacts. This is a great option, however it will be more successful once you have your page set up with all of your business information and images, hopefully it will give people more of a reason to become a fan.
2. Unpublish Your Page
While you are working on your page, perfecting the content and the images make sure you unpublish the page. Facebook automatically sets your page as published so make sure you click ‘Edit Page’ and down the left hand side click on ‘Manage Permissions.’ You will see an option called ‘Page Visibility’ tick the box which says ‘Unpublish Page.’ Once you have everything set up, simply uncheck the box to publish the page again.
Landing on the Facebook Wall is like entering a conversation part the way through, it can be confusing and daunting particularly if your potential new fan isn’t all that familiar with Facebook Fan Pages. To increase your chances of securing new fans add a Welcome Tab to your Facebook Business Page and make it the default landing page. Welcome tabs can be added easily you just need to find one that suits your needs and budget. Some popular Welcome Tab applications are Lujure, Pagemodo and TabSite to name a few. Once you have added your Welcome Tab you can make it the default landing tab by following these instructions:
4. Insert a Great Profile Pic
You have access to 180×540 pixels for your profile pic (down the left hand side) so develop a JPEG image that has all of your preferred contact details, your logo and anything else you believe is important in conveying your businesses message. Think of this space like a free advertisement for your business. Like most things on Facebook sometimes less is more.
5. Upload at Least 5 Great Photos/Images
It’s a good idea to upload at least 5 JPEG images or photos which will appear along the top of your page. If you want to make your page branding stand out use photos or images which are cohesive in communicating your message. Be aware that Facebook randomly moves the images and there is no way to set the images in a particular order. Remember that a photo or image attached to a status update will appear along the top of your page. If you want to keep your images or branding neat and tidy, you can simply hide the photo by hovering over the image and clicking the X in the top right hand corner. Facebook will ask you if you would like to hide the photo and you click yes.
These are my top 5 essential steps to take before publishing your Facebook Fan Page (besides all of the basics like updating your details and making a few posts). What else did you do before publishing your Facebook Business Page?
